This is what it's all about." - Claude Marchesini, Photographer, Greenville, Mississippi "I grew up here, and my vision is to see a revitalization of not only just the downtown area, but our entire community. The story from this video is referenced in the report on State Historic Tax Credits: Maximizing Preservation, Community Revitalization, and Economic Impact (November 2018)

Bill Boykin grew up in Greenville, Mississippi with a population of 31.500. He says, "without historic tax credits, projects like mine would not be feasible. Since I took the risk to rehabilitate the former 1940s Sears building into a 28-room boutique hotel and loft apartments, nine or ten other properties have been sold along the street. We now have nearly 75 employees [in the hotel, restaurant and bar] and it’s hard to find a parking spot downtown. What a good problem to have.

"Our tax credits have made the preservation of our older buildings not only a matter of respect for beauty and history, but of economic good sense." --President Ronald Reagan in 1984 Since that time, the federal historic tax credit has played a critical role in revitalizing small towns and cities, creating jobs, and increasing economic activity, all while returning more tax revenue to the Treasury than it costs.
